Hostels, traditionally bare-bones accommodations adored by backpackers on a spending budget, are undergoing makeovers within a defining travel development of the entire year.

Known for building and creating opulent resorts, Zobler is venturing into the hostel business. Except he's carrying it out his way using the "poshtel." When Zobler first heard the term, he thought it was cute. With the addition of some posh, Zobler can be upgrading the traditional no-frills hostel encounter.

But travel writer Paul Brady says millennials are actually demanding more in the hospitality market, including hostels. They want bold design,Air Max, high quality facilities, and locally-inspired atmosphere -- all for much less.
"You don't need to spend a huge amount of money on your room," Brady said. "You can save money on your own room and spend that cash on encounters in the city you're visiting."
The growing development is a Western european import, where hostels are securely entrenched in the travel culture.

But upscale living comes at a cost. Poshtels can cost 50 percent a lot more than other hostel options. A bed inside a shared room will run you around $50 in the Chicago Freehand.
