Magistrate Priya Beharry has refused to grant bail to a man who has been charged with harbouring and assisting Guyana’s most wanted, Rondell ‘Fine Man’ Rawlins, and his notorious gang.The accused, Shemroy Lyte, of Christianburg, yesterday made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.It is alleged that between Thursday April 22 and Monday June 16 at Christmas Falls he harboured Rondell Rawlins, called ‘Fine Man’; Cecil Simeon Harricharran, called ‘Magic’ or ‘Uncle Willie’; Robin Chung, called ‘Chung boy’; Otis Fiffee, called ‘Mud up’; and Mark Royden Williams called Mark Durant, knowing that they murdered Edwin Gilkes, Dexter Adrian,Dallas Cowboys Jersey For Sale, Irving Ferreira, Zaheer Zakir, Shane Fredricks, Ron Osbourne, Deonarine Singh, Ronald Gomes, Ashraf Ali, Abdool Yasin, Errol Thomas and Baldeo Singh at Bartica on February 17 last.It is also alleged that between Monday, February 18 and April 22, at Wismar, Linden, he harboured the men, knowing that they were responsible for killing 12 persons at Bartica on Sunday February 17.The other charge stated that between Monday February 18 and Thursday April 22, at Linden, Lyte received, relieved, comforted, assisted, harboured and maintained the men knowing that they murdered the 12 persons at Bartica on February 17 last.To all three charges, Lyte, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty. In his own defence Lyte told the court that his lawyer was unable to be at court since he is engaged otherwise in Linden.Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith asked that bail be refused on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence. Bail was refused and Lyte is expected to make his next court appearance on August 29 at the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court.The Magistrate, after ruling, advised Lyte that his lawyer can try to secure bail in the High Court if he so desires.
