Hundreds of thousands of Us citizens spend their Friday nights watching high school football. But recent instances of players attacking referees, and each other, articleMystery chunk of ice crashes onto Californi, are throwing a shadow over the great American tradition, plus some critics are asking if the overall game has gotten out of hand, reports CBS News correspondent David Begnaud.
The most recent incident to make headlines Saturday occurred at a football game in San Antonio, Texas,Air Max Baratas, the best state in high school sportsmen in the nation where nearly 164,000 of them play football, a lot more than California, Georgia and Oklahoma combined.
Video displays quarterback Zeke Cardenas getting escorted out after he assaulted a referee,Ray Ban Wayfarer, and he was kicked off his team and suspended from college for three times.
Cardenas isn't alone.
On Fri in NJ, Senior Fritz Moncion appeared to yank an opponent's helmet off and strike him in the top with it. He too received a suspension system and was cut in the team.
And weekly earlier, close to Austin, a referee was blindsided, after that hit by two members from the John Jay Mustangs. The players were suspended along with an associate coach, and face possible criminal costs.
"I've seen kids that will shove a ref or football players,Ray Ban Sunglasses, articlePink Floyd is over, says guitarist David Gi, but nothing beats that,Air Max Günstig," said Buzz Bissinger, writer of the senior high school soccer classic, "Fri Night Lights," first released 25 years ago. Bissinger says lots of the excesses he wrote about remain today.
"It really is a violent video game. And I really like the violence. However the violence must be confined to the field of play,Ray Ban Glasses," said Bissinger, who thinks bad behavior noticed on the professional and university levels inevitably trickles down to the senior high school game. "They think--well, man, this is actually the way to do it!"
D. W. Rutledge, who coached high school football for 27 years and gained four state championships, believes latest problems over the field reveal broader societal issues.
"In our country,Ray Ban Clubmaster, the American family members provides changed...and having less respect for authority is among the things that we noticed the other night that's really,Air Max, really concerning," he stated.
Rutledge, now the executive movie director of the Tx High School Coaches Association, works with a zero tolerance policy for sportsmen and coaches.
"When they help to make actually,Air Max Kaufen, really bad choices,Air Max Hombre, articleStar Wars  cast ruined the Chewbacca costum, really poor choices, there needs to be really, really hard fines that go with that," he said, also pointing out that regardless of the incident in Austin,Air Max 90 Baratas, there were over 600 games played that evening across Texas that had no other major problems.
Rutledge also stated one of the goals of his business is convincing instructors and players to reduce the win-at-all-costs mentality, which he says could be contributing to a number of the violence.
