After a month since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan The Taliban only ordered the boys to go back to school. but also forbidding girls from going back to school The Taliban claims it will only allow Afghan girls to return to school if they are assured of the strict safety and segregation required under Islamic law strictly adhered to by the Taliban rulers.
Malala, Pakistani Nobel Peace Prize Laureate which was attacked by the Taliban militants in Afghanistan Trapped on a school bus back home in 2012, but miraculously survived. It also urged Muslim leaders to make clear to the Taliban that the religion does not justify banning girls from school.
While the activists who participated in the open letter said. Afghanistan is the only country in the world to ban girls from education. It also called on the G20 leaders to speed up funding for education programs for Afghan children. The open letter was signed by more than 640,000 people. |
