Foreign news agencies reported from Beijing, China, Nov. 19, citing at least four Southeast Asian diplomatic sources as part of the Foreign Ministry's mission of Special Envoy Sun Guoxiang for Asia. China, who visited Singapore and Brunei last week. It is an attempt to "convince" the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to invite General Min Aung Hlaing, the commander-in-chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces. Sun said he accepted and understood the attitudes of ASEAN and China, ready to discuss with "Myanmar Non-Politician Representatives" run by ASEAN Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said he declined to comment directly. But said the Beijing government supported "all sectors" in Myanmar to negotiate peacefully.
